Card meaning
Upright - standing above the clouds, you look down on the world. Today's walk is wider than it is high.
Reversed - fog hides the peak. Do not rush the trail; rest a day at the shelter.
The tale
Jirisan became Korea's first national park in 1967.
Cheonwangbong, at 1,915 m, is the highest peak on the South Korean mainland.
Nogodan (1,507 m) is said to be where Silla held rites to the mountain spirit.
The Baekdu-daegan range ends its southward run here, so people call it the mountain's embrace.
A saying holds that three generations of good deeds are needed to see the Cheonwangbong sunrise.
