Card meaning
Upright - two rivers flow as one. With whoever you meet today, a single verse will carry.
Reversed - the water rose and the ferry cannot cross. When the wait grows long, leave it as a song.
The tale
Jeongseon Arirang is the Arirang handed down in Jeongseon, Gangwon.
Auraji is where the Songcheon and Golji streams join to become the Joyang River.
The lyrics tell of a young couple kept apart when the river rose and the ferry could not cross.
Raftsmen carried the song down the Han River to Seoul, the tale says.
Arirang was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2012.
