A jjimjilbang is a bathhouse, a set of saunas and a lounge under one roof. It isn’t somewhere you wash and leave — you change clothes and spend half a day.
Как выбрать
There is a fixed order: shoe locker → pay → collect your jjimjil clothes and towel → the men’s or women’s changing room → shower → the shared sauna floor. The wristband you are given is your locker key and your tab; anything you eat inside is settled on the way out.
The bathing area is separated by gender and you go in with nothing on. Covering up with a towel is not the norm — this is what surprises visitors most.
The sauna floor is mixed-gender and the issued clothes are compulsory there. This is where families and groups sit together.
Wash yourself before getting into a tub. It is closer to a rule than to etiquette.
Many stay open around the clock, so you can sleep over — but on the floor with a wooden block for a pillow, not in a bed, and most charge more overnight.
Prices differ from place to place. Read the board at the entrance — the day rate and the night rate are not the same.
Some places turn away large tattoos. Ask first if that might apply to you.
