National Theatre Company's Myeongdong Arts Theatre is a theatre-specialised performance venue newly born from the restoration of the former Myeongdong National Theatre building. From 1934 to 1973, it served as a pioneer of Korean culture and arts as a cinema, performance hall, and arts theatre. Although it disappeared in 1975, after three years of restoration work, it reopened in 2009 under the name 'National Theatre Company's Myeongdong Arts Theatre'. The newly opened National Theatre Company's Myeongdong Arts Theatre preserved the original exterior walls, while the interior was completely remodelled into a mid-sized theatre with 588 seats equipped with the latest stage facilities. The sightlines between the audience and the actors on stage are optimised, and the distance between the seats and the stage is close, allowing audiences to enjoy performances as if breathing together with the actors.
