The original name of Gaemok Port, a modest fishing village in Sowon-myeon, Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, was Uihang (蟻項). It is said that because the port's shape resembled an ant's narrow waist, it was called Uihang, using the characters for ant (蟻) and neck (項), before being more casually referred to as Gaemok. Compared to other ports, Gaemok Port has fewer anglers, but that allows for a more relaxed and peaceful fishing experience. The main fish species at Gaemok Port include rockfish, greenling, sea bass, silverside, and sand lance. Near Gaemok Port is Uihang Beach, and a bit further away is Gureumpo Beach, making it possible to combine fishing with summer beach activities.
