Jagwangsa is a Jogye Order temple affiliated with the Tanheo Buddhist Cultural Foundation, founded on December 20, 1969, by the Great Master Tanheo with the aim of nurturing talent. Hakha-dong in Daejeon, where Jagwangsa is located, is a neighborhood named after the descent of cranes, with a legend that immortals and sages once came down and stayed there. The site of Jagwangsa was previously where Scholar Uam Song Siyeol taught students, having built a seodang (village school) there after judging it a propitious site where great national talents could be raised; a 300-year-old juniper tree planted when the seodang was built, and a stele inscribed with 'Seongjeon Yeongdangji' marking this place as where Song Siyeol nurtured students, remain there.
