Transit cards — T-money and the Climate Card
Put money on one card and use it for the subway, buses, taxis, and convenience stores.
Buy a T-money card at convenience stores or subway station machines. Adding money is done in cash as a rule — many station machines take cash only.
The subway↔bus transfer discount only applies when you pay with a transit card.
Many Seoul city buses take no cash — if you plan to ride buses, a transit card is effectively required.
The Climate Card is Seoul's flat-rate unlimited monthly pass. Its price and coverage (some lines excluded) are defined by the city's official notice — for a stay of a few days, T-money is the simpler choice.
Leftover money on the card is refundable at convenience stores (small-amount limits apply).
