Temple visit etiquette
A temple is a place of practice before it is a sight — visit quietly and dressed modestly.
- Take your shoes off before entering a Dharma hall (a building housing a Buddha statue).
- Clothing that covers shoulders and knees is a safe choice.
- Many halls post no-photography signs — and even without one, don't shoot during a ceremony.
- Ask first before photographing a monk.
- Don't touch statues or ritual objects.
- Keep your voice low on the grounds, and eat only in designated areas.
