Riding the subway
Lines are told apart by number and color, and you tap your card both in and out.
- Tap at the gate when entering, and tap again when leaving — that is how the fare settles.
- Single-journey cards come from station machines. They include a small refundable amount, returned at the refund machine of your exit station.
- For directions, Naver Map and KakaoMap are the accurate ones. Google Maps does not give driving directions in Korea (public-transit routing works).
- Priority seats for the elderly and pregnant stay empty by custom, even when the car is full.
- Keep it quiet inside — loud conversation and long phone calls read as rude.
- Last-train times differ by line — the map apps display them next to each route.
