Sinseol-dong was the center of the leather and fabric industry from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. It was a place that enjoyed its heyday, filled with countless artisans and merchants along these streets, but now it is little known. Therefore, Gajt began in the area near Sinseol-dong to revive the history and memories of the fading Sinseol-dong Leather and Fabric Street. Gajt draws attention once again to the leather and fabric culture of Sinseol-dong that is embedded in everyday life, and has designed its store's exterior and interior spaces, and even its desserts and beverages, around concepts that embody leather and fabric. The store's name also originates from "Gajt," the pure Korean word for "leather," and goes beyond being a simple cafe or bar to serve as a cultural space that connects the historical and cultural value, stories, and memories that the old leather street once held to the present. Through efforts with local merchants, Gajt dreams of a new revival of Sinseol-dong and the old leather street, and strives to widely promote Sinseol-dong's identity and story as a platform that revisits the area's industrial history and culture, beyond being a mere consumption space.
