Jagwangsa is a temple of the Jogye Order affiliated with the Tanheo Buddhist Cultural Foundation, founded on December 20, 1969, by the Great Master Tanheo with the aim of nurturing talent. Hakha-dong in Daejeon, where Jagwangsa is located, is a neighborhood named after the descent of cranes, and it is said to be a place where immortals and sages came down and stayed. The site of Jagwangsa was previously where Scholar Uam Song Siyeol built a seodang (village school) and educated students, saying that if one raised disciples here, one could obtain great talents for the nation. There stands a 300-year-old juniper tree planted when the seodang was built, along with a stele inscribed with "Seongjeon Yeongdangji" (성전영당지), marking this place as where Song Siyeol nurtured his students.
