Noeun-ri, Hongbuk-myeon, Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, is the birthplace of General Choe Yeong, born in 1316 during the reign of King Gongmin of the Goryeo Dynasty. There is no record of when the shrine of Mumin-gong (Choe Yeong's posthumous title) at Samsongsan-jeong in Noeun-ri was demolished, and the shrine was rebuilt at Samsongsan-jeong in late 1995. From a young age, Choe Yeong was sharp-witted, exceptionally brave, and strategic, making him an extraordinary figure who excelled in both civil and military affairs. He was a distinguished general who achieved victories in various battles after King Gongmin's reign and stood at the core of the Goryeo government, but he fell from power and met his death due to Yi Seong-gye's withdrawal of troops from Wihwa Island. Hongseong-gun held a ritual to honor General Choe Yeong's spirit in 1995 and has continued to hold such rituals since 1996 to soothe his soul.
